Irina, a nurse from a small town, has a cardiac defect. According to the doctors, her days are numbered, and there is nobody to take care of her six-year-old daughter Anna. Irina is desperately trying to find a way out, and it strikes her that Ania could be taken care of by her grandfather – the father of the young man who had left Irina when she was pregnant. All she knows about the daughter’s grandfather, Igor Vasilevich Demin, is that he is a quite well-to-do businessman.

Irina goes to the capital to introduce the daughter to her grandfather. However, Igor Vasilevich is not ready to be a grandfather, he does not feel old at all. His business is quite prosperous, and he is going to marry a girl twice younger than he. Igor Vasilevich is not ready to accept the idea that he needs to take care of someone else’s child. Irina and her daughter return home empty-handed; meanwhile, Igor Vasilevich was attempted against, and he began to understand that the little Ania really needed his support.

Igor Vasilevich informs Irina that he is ready to take away the granddaughter. Taking leave of the daughter, Irina understands that it is probably the last time they see each other. However, Ania does not know about mother’s disease and, leaving for grandpa’s, she expects that the mother will soon come and see them.

Little Ania enjoys the life with her grandpa, while he has serious problems in the relations with his son Kirill and the young fiancée Yuliia. He feels bitter because of the breach with the son who decided to leave their family business, and Yulia treats Ania in a markedly cold manner. She is annoyed that Igor Vasilevich shifted his attention to the granddaughter, and their wedding is being postponed.
